INTRODUCTION

Bushy Ground made its debut at the 2010 Festival when a large portion of the field was made available that year to provide room for approx. 50,000 people to watch England’s World Cup football match against Germany. Since then, it has returned each Glastonbury-year as a public camping field, and it is MASSIVE.

Due to its peripheral location, this camping field is quite calm and the tent density usually isn’t too high. Another plus is its proximity to the close by Gate D.

This is also a good field for late arrivals as there will usually still be camping space here well into the Thursday. Oh yes, and there are compost toilets nearby (as you can see from the image above).

One of the main disadvantages of Bushy Ground is that it’s located just behind the Park Farm farmhouse and dairy unit which acts as a buffer between this camping field and the rest of the Festival areas to the east (i.e – John Peel, Silver Hayes, Other Stage). And seeing the farm is out of bounds to festival-goers, you will have to find a way to and from your tent each day and circumvent the vast prohibited area which includes these infrastructures as well as campsites reserved for the technical teams.

Another point to keep in mind is that a river runs at the northern end of the field superheating it from the adjacent Rivermead, making the ground around it prone to getting very soggy and muddy on a wet year.

Access to this campsite is easily accomplished from either of the Western Pedestrian Gates A or D.

PROs

  • Lots of space for late arrivals.
  • Close compost toilets.

CONs

  • Can be a bit of a hassle to manoeuvre around as it lies behind some restricted areas.
  • Quite a walk from Shangri-La.
  • The northern part of the field can get soggy and muddy on a wet year.

SUMMARY

Great for late arrivals and for those who want a quieter camping field while not minding a bit of a walk to the bussier areas.
