The Worthy Farm festival founder – who curates the line-up with his daughter Emily Eavis – rocking his trademark denim shorts and sporting an ‘I love Glastonbury-on-Sea’ T-shirt, launched the 60-meter-long pier designed by long-time Glastonbury creative partner, Joe Rush, who based the design on Llandudno pier in North Wales. Eavis made the announcement surrounded by performers in traditional 1950s garb.

The grand project is the brainchild of artist Joe Rush, whose elaborate works have previously featured at the festival and who Michael Eavis describes as “the glue that keeps it all going”. Rush is also the man behind the Cineramageddon area – which debuted during the 2017 edition of the festival.

In a previous interview, Rush said: “I approached Michael about the idea during the fallow year,” said the abstract artist, who also creates the imposing sculptures that are fixed at the top of the Pyramid Stage and Other Stage.

The lunch of the pier could not have come at a better time seeing Worthy Farm is currently experiencing an abundance of sunshine in what the Met Office predicts “could be the hottest Glastonbury on record”.
