Spice Girls‘ Mel C has revealed the girl group want to headline Glastonbury Festival
Earlier today (Monday, November 5) the iconic girl group have announced their reunion plans and return with a set of UK stadium performances scheduled for 2019.
Confirming their return to the live scene on Twitter, the girl group shared a video featuring Mel B, Mel C, Geri Horner and Emma Bunton delivering a mock news bulletin. The girl group will be touring as a four-piece, as previously reported, Victoria Beckham will not be taking part in the pop act’s reunion.
With the proximity of the shows’ dates (which kick off on June 1st and conclude on June 15th) to Glastonbury 2019, speculation regarding a Worthy Farm appearance at next year’s festival is inevitable. If that alone isn’t enough to fuel the Glasto Rumour Mill, earlier this year, in an interview at the Ivor Novello Awards (which took place prior to confirmation of the Girls’ reunion plans), Mel C told The Mirror that one of her biggest aspirations for the band would simply be “Glastonbury”.
Although thoughts of the Spice Girls headlining Glastonbury may be the announcement of a lifetime for some, while at the same time run shivers down the spines of others, according to festival founder and organiser Michael Eavis, the line-up for 2019 has already been booked. That could mean that if the girl group are indeed set for a Glasto appearance, they would have to wait for the following year, which would subsequently be the festival’s 50th anniversary.
Update – November 7: The girl group addressed those Glastonbury rumours in their first major interview since announcing their reunion, saying there are “no plans for that…” – while Mel B interjected by saying; “we should though”.
