There is talk of a new cider in town for Glastonbury 2019
According to reports Thatchers Cider, known as the “official cider of the Glastonbury Festival”, will not be returning to Worthy Farm this summer.
With less than 100 days until Glastonbury opens its green gates and kicks off one of the biggest events in the British calendar – it seems Glasto-goers can expect a slight change to their cider menu.
Long-standing Thatchers Cider has been one of the most prominent ciders on the Farm, being served at some of the over 100 bars scattered across the festival site ever since 2014.
Martin Thatcher, who runs the cider company, said: “We’ve had a great time working with Glastonbury Festival over the past few years and we’ve become good friends with Michael and Emily Eavis.
“This year we won’t be there as the official cider to the festival, as partnerships like this do always change.
“We’ll be there in spirit though and if you’re lucky enough to have tickets, we wish everyone a fantastic time.
“Of course festival goers will be able to find supplies of Thatchers Gold and Haze, to enjoy while they’re there, in nearby supermarkets and of course throughout Bristol.
“Meanwhile we’ve got a really exciting spring and summer full of events ahead, especially here in the South West – including Valley Fest, Bristol International Balloon Fiesta and the Badminton Horse Trials, and we’ve also just announced our partnership with the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which will have international matches at both Bristol and Taunton, so we look forward to serving our ciders to many, many people over the coming months.”
The reason for Thatchers departure comes as somewhat of a surprise, as it was previously reported that the Somerset-based cider has renewed its agreement to supply cider to Glastonbury Festival and would be “the official cider supplier to the festival for the next five years”.
Earlier this year it was revealed that a new Somerset cider will be introduced at Glastonbury 2019.
Mallets is a new brand from the Showerings Cider Mill in Somerset, which will be on offer at 110 bars throughout Worthy Farm at next year’s Glastonbury festival.
The cider is produced using apples grown just miles from the festival site and will be on offer for the next four years of the festival as the event’s principal cider brand.

“We have been part of the festival for more than 20 years, having introduced Brothers cider to Glastonbury back in 1995, so the festival holds a special place in our hearts.
“We have worked extremely hard perfecting Mallets and this latest deal is testament to its quality; we can’t wait for the Glastonbury community to try it.

A refreshing blend of Mallets Original cider with natural blackcurrant and blackberry flavours, ready to quench the toughest of thirsts.
Glastonbury Festival’s founder, Michael Eavis, said: “We feel it’s very important to have a local producer of cider at the festival, showcasing some of the best cider Somerset has to offer.
“Mallets is produced just a stone’s throw from the festival and we’re really looking forward to working with them.
“It tastes great and I’m sure our cider drinkers will love it. It’s already going down very well in the village Working Men’s Club.”
Glastonbury 2019 runs between June 26 and 30 at Worthy Farm, Pilton, Somerset.
