Michael Eavis commits 500 free Glastonbury tickets to trainee NHS nurses

Mr Eavis’ gesture is in response to the nursing recruitment crisis and is open to students living in the Mendip area and who have enrolled in a nursing course in 2018.

Glastonbury Festival founder, Michael Eavis, has announced that he will offer up to 500 free tickets to local trainee nurses for next year’s (2019) festival.

According to reports, Eavis spoke at Shepton Mallet’s hospital fete earlier this month (July 21) after the chairman of the local trust reportedly told him that there was “a real problem with the lack of nurses being trained now.”

To help with the issue and tempt more men and women into colleges in Somerset, Eavis decided to give up to 500 local trainee nurses the chance to visit next year’s legendary festival, free of charge. The cost of a general admission full weekend ticket back in 2017 was £238, according to Glastonbury Festival’s official website.

The offer is open to anyone who lives in the Mendip area and who have enrolled in a nursing course in 2018.

If you meet those criteria and want to apply, you may send your Glastonbury registration number, a copy of your 2018 graduation certificate and proof of work for the NHS in Somerset to: [email protected]

At the event, the Worthy Farm owner also took the time to thank the numerous doctors and nurses in Somerset who had taken care of the local community for generations, citing their “timeless work”.

Meanwhile, there have yet to be any headline confirmations for next year’s Glastonbury as of this moment. That’s not to say the Glasto Rumour Mill isn’t in its full spinning motion.

As speculation about who will headline Glastonbury 2019 continues, as of the time of publishing, Mike Pickering’s Hacienda Classical is the sole act confirmed for 2019 so far, after Pickering dropped the news on Radio X back in December of last year (2017).

Emily Eavis recently told BBC Radio 2’s Jo Whiley about the plans for the Glastonbury 2019 line-up and that they were going well, revealing that the Legend’s slot will be a “non-British female” and that Paul McCartney is ‘top of their list’ to headline.

Other artists rumoured to appear include Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Fleetwood Mac, Oasis and Kendrick Lamar – to name a few. Michael Eavis said that the 2019 headliners will be “two or three [acts] that have never played”.

Eavis also said that Boy George & Culture Club would be a ‘great idea’ to play the legend’s slot next year. As the band have just yesterday (July 31) released their first new material in twenty years entitled ‘Let Somebody Love You.’

Glastonbury Festival is set to return to Worthy Farm Wednesday, June 26, 2019, and run till Sunday, June 30 – with Glastonbury Festival curator, Emily Eavis, also mentioning that tickets will go on sale round about October.
